Description:

The Face of Jamaica Plain is a community documentary project.

Through photographic portraits & videotaped interviews, the project explores how Jamaica Plain residents have experienced the community change, what are current issues they are facing, and what they would like to see for the future of their neighborhood. The goal of the project is to promote communication between residents of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds on community issues. Upon completion, the project will be installed/displayed in a widely accessible public space in the community.

The Face of Jamaica Plain is the creation of photographer & filmmaker Margaux Joffe in collaboration with residents of Jamaica Plain. The project is produced with the support of the The Center For Documentary Studies at Duke University and in association with the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation.

All photographs were shot at Anibal Color Studio in Jamaica Plain. Studio use for the project was kindly donated by the studio’s owners, Anibal and Rey Ramírez.
